Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal feature quite a cast, including Futaba Sakura, who represents the Hermit Arcana. Futaba is the brilliant hacker behind the Phantom Thieves. By advancing the Futaba Confidant Cooperation relationship, you can unlock fusion options and strong battle bonuses.

Why You Should Max Out the Futaba Confidant
Futaba’s Confidant is one of the best to rank up in P5R. She brings a lot of utility and time-saving abilities she provides in the Metaverse. Maxing her out significantly streamlines dungeon crawling and combat, making your playthrough much smoother.
- Moral Support (Rank 1): Futaba has a chance to cast random Kaja (buffs) or party-healing magic during battle. This happens automatically, it saves you turns and sp.
- Mementos Scan (Rank 2): Grants a chance to fully map a floor of Mementos (including all chests) upon entering. Huge time saver and helps to avoid boredom in Mementos.
- Position Hack (Rank 4): Provides a chance to instantly initiate a “Hold Up” on enemies at the start of a battle. This means guaranteed All-Out Attacks or negotiations.
- Active Support (Rank 6): Enhances Moral Support to include a chance to cast Charge (Physical Attack boost) or recover SP for the entire party. The recovering SP part is so strong.
- Treasure Reboot (Rank 7): Gives a chance to revive search objects in the area after a battle.
- Emergency Shift (Rank 9): Provides a chance to swap in backup party members if two or more active members are knocked out.
- Final Guard (Rank 10): This has a chance to nullify a fatal attack on one of your party members. Also transforms Necronomicon to Prometheus, which unlocks Treasure Skimmer. This ability can point out Shadows carrying rare items.

Futaba Sakura Story and Background
Futaba Sakura is a bit of a weirdo, but in a good way. She grows on almost any person, making her one of the most popular characters in Persona 5 Royal. Representing the Hermit Arcana, she contributes to the Phantom Thieves as an essential navigator and tactical support instead of participating in front-line combat. Futaba, known online as “Alibaba,” is a highly intelligent hacker who leads a reclusive life due to significant emotional trauma and social anxiety. Her narrative delves deeply into themes of grief and isolation, making it one of the most emotional stories in the game.
Futaba is the daughter of Wakaba Isshiki, a cognitive researcher associated with a covert group linked to the Metaverse. Her mother perished under suspicious circumstances during Futaba’s childhood. Although her death was officially deemed a suicide, it was an assassination orchestrated by the villain. Futaba was led to believe that she was responsible for her mother’s demise, resulting in profound guilt, depression, and withdrawal from society.
She developed severe agoraphobia and PTSD, becoming socially reclusive. Subsequently, she moved in with Sojiro Sakura, her mother’s friend and the Joker’s guardian, who became her custodian. Despite his stern exterior, Sojiro is genuinely protective of and caring towards Futaba.

Futaba's Palace and Awakening
Futaba’s trauma is symbolized by her very own Palace in the Metaverse. The palace is an Egyptian pyramid that represents her feelings of worthlessness and guilt over her mother’s death. Under the alias Alibaba, she asks the Phantom Thieves to “steal her heart.”
Inside her Palace, she faces a distorted version of her mother and awakens to her Persona, Necronomicon. Unlike the other Phantom Thieves, Futaba doesn’t fight directly. She acts as the team’s navigator, providing support like enemy scanning, buffs, and reviving teammates.
After joining the Phantom Thieves, Futaba gradually opens up to the team. Her technical skills and unmatched intelligence help uncover the deeper layers of the Metaverse and the conspiracy behind it.
Conclusion of Futaba Confidant P5R
Futaba is one of the better confidants to max out. She brings a lot of support in terms of combat. Her story itself is also interesting to follow, and with her being one of the main characters in the game, you should really complete the confidant.
This concludes our Persona 5 Royal Futaba Confidant Guide tutorial.
