Persona 5: The Phantom X News
Great news, Persona 5: The Phantom X is due for a global release on June 26, 2025. It will be available on PC (via Steam), iOS, and Android.
The game introduces a new protagonist, codenamed Wonder. Wonder leads a new group of Phantom Thieves in a storyline similar to the original Persona 5. Players will experience the dual life of a high school student by day and a Phantom Thief by night. You engage in activities such as classes, relationships, and exploring dungeons to reform corrupt individuals.

Players have the ability to summon various characters, including those from the original Persona 5, through specific contracts. I’m very interested in seeing how this will be done, as some of the original Persona 5 characters are extremely popular. The game also features multiplayer components such as guilds, allowing players to interact within the game environment.
You can pre-register through the official P5X site https://persona5x.com/. Doing so will provide you with some nice items and a slight head start. You can also pre-register directly on the App Store, Google Play Store, and Steam.
Phantom X Gacha System
One thing that makes me worry is that the Phantom X features a “gacha” system that has the purpose of extracting real-life money. Hopefully, they don’t go overboard, and players will be able to enjoy the game without having to spend money.
Things that you can buy:
- Chance to summon new characters (including new and returning Personas)
- Chance to obtain special weapons or items
- Chance to participate in events for limited-time characters or gear
Persona 5: The Phantom X Characters
Wonder, the game’s protagonist, is a second-year student at a private school named Kokatsu Academy. As usual, the parents are somewhere far away, leaving Wonder to take care of himself and find his own path in the world. You have the lovable life of a student by day, and a phantom thief by night. At this point, it is not yet clear how the protagonist awakens.
Lufel is a mysterious, owl-like companion. He plays the role of your guide and mentor in Persona 5: The Phantom X. Much like Morgana in the original Persona 5, Lufel helps you navigate both the real world and the cognitive world (Metaverse), offering advice, mission intel, and tutorial guidance.

Motoha Arai is a second-year student at Kokatsu Academy and a classmate of Wonder (the protagonist). Motoha is known for her straightforward and cheerful demeanor, making her well-liked. She tends to act on intuition rather than logic, which leads to average academic performance. Nevertheless, her intuition often uncovers solutions that others might miss.
She is/was a passionate and naturally gifted baseball player. She is very skilled and could even challenge professional players. She quit baseball after an incident with her idol, which triggered an intense feeling of guilt in Motoha.
Next up, we have Shun Kano. Shun is also a second-year student at Kokatsu Academy. He is a bit awkward and has limited social skills. This results in him having almost no friends of his own age. He, however, is very close to the owner of an old ramen shop.
Riko Tanemura is a third-year student at Kokatsu Academy. She is the heir of one of the biggest companies in Japan. She is also the chair of the school disciplinary committee. Excellent grades and good conduct have made her a picture-perfect honor student.
Persona 5: The Phantom X Gameplay
So, what do we know about gameplay? They stay true to what works so well in Persona 5. The game features turn-based combat. Enemy weaknesses are exploitable and provide an additional turn. When all enemies are down, you can launch an All-Out Attack with your party members. There are rumoured to be a lot of different Personas with all kinds of skills.
Combat takes place in the Metaverse world. The Metaverse contains palaces and Mementos. In a palace, you navigate the world to confront strong shadows and uncover hidden truths. Mementos is an auto-generated dungeon, as it is in the normal game.
The social aspect is still huge. Outside of the Metaverse, you need to build strong relationships to enhance abilities. These are confidant relationships, and they will work in the same way as in normal Persona 5.
