Kasumi Persona 5 Royal Confidant Rank Guide

Persona 5 Royal introduces two new confidants. Kasumi is one of the two. She represents the Faith Arcana and is also available as a new party member. Our new Confidant offers a unique journey that intertwines directly with the game’s expanded storyline. Furthermore, Kasumi is romanceable, which will make her even more popular.

Timing is important for Kasumi, you have to complete Rank 4 of the Faith Confidant before 12/22. If you don’t, you will be locked out of progressing her social link for the rest of the game. There are a few other locks that I’ll put at the relevant ranks. She is a bit harder to complete than the other characters from Persona 5, but she is surely worth it.

Persona 5 Royal Who Is Kasumi

Kasumi is introduced early in Persona 5 Royal as a promising first-year student and elite gymnast brought to Shujin Academy under a scholarship. She’s polite, energetic, and appears to be exceptionally well-adjusted. You first meet her during a mandatory counselling session, and later cross paths with her during various moments of the main story. Early on, she appears separate from the Phantom Thieves and their activities.

Despite her cheerful nature, she sometimes reacts with anxiety or self-doubt, especially when recalling her family or past competitions.

As the Faith Arcana Confidant, Kasumi’s bond route begins on May 30th. Through your interactions, she expresses a desire to become stronger and overcome mental blocks. She is dedicated to improving her gymnastics performance. You help her train, reflect on the past, and build confidence. However, there are hints that something deeper is bothering her.

During the third semester, you find out that Kasumi Yoshizawa is not Kasumi but instead Sumire Yoshizawa, Kasumi’s younger twin sister. Following Kasumi’s tragic death in a car accident, Sumire was consumed by guilt and identity loss. Unable to cope with her grief and feelings of inferiority, she subconsciously adopted her late sister’s identity. This mental fracture was exploited by Dr. Maruki, the new Palace ruler in the third semester.

When Joker and the Phantom Thieves return in the third semester, they discover that reality has been altered. Kasumi initially fights against them, believing she is doing the right thing by protecting Maruki’s ideal world, where her sister is “alive.” However, Sumire regains her true memories and confronts her grief. This triggers the awakening of her true Persona, Vanadis, allowing her to finally embrace her identity and rejoin the Phantom Thieves.

From that point on, Sumire becomes a full combat member of the team, with a renewed sense of self-worth and purpose. Her character arc revolves around accepting loss, facing reality, and discovering strength in vulnerability. By maxing out her Confidant and continuing into the endgame, Sumire’s Persona evolves once more into Ella, unlocking her ultimate Bless skill, Shining Arrows.
