Sojiro Sakura Story and Background
Sojiro Sakura is your guardian and the owner of Café LeBlanc. He represents the Hierophant Arcana, his story is one of quiet strength, regret, and redemption. Sojiro is the seemingly apathetic café owner who agrees to take you in while you’re on probation.
At first, he treats you like a burden, laying down rules, avoiding personal questions, and making it clear he doesn’t want trouble. But as with many Persona 5 Royal characters, there’s much more beneath the surface.

Early Ranks (1–3): The Cold Guardian
Initially, Sojiro keeps his distance. You’re just a tenant to him, and he doesn’t seem interested in your life or problems. But through small conversations, you start to see cracks in his armor.
- He seems overly protective of a “girl” who lives upstairs. Futaba, though he doesn’t mention her by name at first.
- He has contacts in high places but avoids using them.
- He seems to shoulder a big burden.
Mid Ranks (4–6): Wakaba’s Legacy & Futaba’s Trauma
As your bond deepens, Sojiro opens up about his past:
- He was close to Wakaba Isshiki, a gifted cognitive scientist and Futaba’s mother.
- After Wakaba’s mysterious death, ruled a suicide, Futaba became a shut-in, suffering from trauma and severe bullying.
- Sojiro became Futaba’s legal guardian and has cared for her ever since, shielding her from the world and raising her.
This phase of the Confidant arc is filled with emotional tension. Sojiro is doing his best, but he’s deeply unsure if he’s enough for Futaba. He blames himself for not being able to save Wakaba or help Futaba recover.
High Ranks (7–9): Fighting for Family
Sugimura, a government official connected to a powerful politician, begins pressuring Sojiro to give up Futaba. He threatens legal action and attempts to discredit Sojiro as an unfit guardian.
At this turning point, Sojiro:
- Considers making Wakaba’s confidential research public to expose the truth behind her death.
- Wrestles with the decision to protect Futaba or risk it all for justice.
- Eventually decides to fight back with your support and Futaba’s encouragement.
Rank 10: A True Father Figure
By the final rank, Sojiro undergoes a full transformation:
- He sees you not just as a tenant, but as part of his family.
- His relationship with Futaba strengthens; he trusts her to live more independently.
“You’re not just some kid I took in. You’re my responsibility… and my pride.” – Sojiro, Rank 10
